Or rather, YOU can sign up to volunteer to help build .5 more miles of trail.

Saturday September 28th (national public lands day), join the Larimer County Trails and Open Space folks from 9 am – 2 pm. They are looking for 25 volunteers to help build 0.5 miles of new single track trail at Hermit Park. This will be basic new tread construction for a multi-use trail that will get the current trail off of a gravel road and up on a hillside to provide a better experience and sustainability for the trail.

At least half of it anyway. Rode an out and back and went 7 miles. All of the volunteers did an amazing job constructing the trail. The trail follows mostly gentle grade and is not technical at all. There are some rocky sections.

We parked at the bottom parking lot and rode up the trail to the Kruger Rock junction and back. It is mostly uphill on the way to the junction and fun gentle downhill on the way back. An easier and quicker route would be to park at the bottom parking lot, then ride the road up to Kruger Rock trail, then ride the trail back.

Either way, this trail is an excellent addition to the bikeable trails around Estes Park!!!

Volunteers are needed for trail building day on Saturday, August 6 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Training and a free lunch is provided for all volunteers!

We need as many volunteers as possible. This will be a new trail construction project, to be completed over the next two years. Please arrange to carpool to Hermit Park as space is limited.

Re: Proposed Multi-purpose trail in Hermit Park

Dear Mr. Gary K. Buffington:

 

Earlier this month Christine Fleming met with our secretary, Thad Eggen, and discussed a proposed trail in Hermit Park. We are very excited about this proposed trail and would like to help move this project from the list of proposed ideas in the 2017 master plan to reality.

 

We understand that projects of this nature need some feedback or public support to become reality. For that reason we would like to state: The Estes Park Cycling Coalition would like to request that the proposed multi-purpose trail receive consideration for construction this summer, 2015. The EPCC would also like to offer any support needed, such as volunteers, to the project.

 

Please thank Christine Fleming for her time and efforts to educate us on the proposed trail and thank-you for your time and consideration in this matter.
